We investigate prior and existing work that attempts to define what is loosely classified as fourth-world countries and other terms we may not yet be aware of in this context.
That is countries with a mix of riches, middle class and extreme poverty – and all the variables in between. At the moment, these are countries that usually get classified as first world, third world, or global south or global north, but those terms are too broad and, in a sense, meaningless to really define the livelihoods and lifestyles of the people living in these ill-defined territories.
Often in very poor conditions and largely unresearched. Largely indigenous communities. The work of this project looks to redefine this term in a meaningful and useful way that depicts the lives of those who live within these conditions so that we can work to improve quality of life.
